Summary

This year’s growing season was marked by below average precipitation and a historically hot summer, resulting in lower fruit and berry volumes than an average year. Despite stressful growing conditions and the challenges presented by the ongoing pandemic, the resilience of the vines and the collaborative nature of Fetzer Vineyards‘ wine, wineries and operational teams led to a successful harvest. Fruit from the Mendocino County Estate ranches as well as fruit from partner growers from across California arrived to the winery with crisp acidity, balanced flavors and excellent quality.

The wines exhibit remarkable dynamism and a dynamic varietal character, the result of unique growing conditions and careful handling in the vineyard and cellar. The naturally abundant acids in 2021 grapes complement the ripe flavors of the vintage, creating wines with vibrant aromas and flavors, and a mouth-watering freshness on the palate. It’s an idea for the brands Fetzer, Bonterra and 1000 Stories, which aim for delicious wines made with precocious pleasure in mind. Acidity is also a key to longevity, so the collectible wines in Fetzer Vineyards’ California portfolio have the potential to age well and gain complexity over time.
